You’re in safe hands at Smart Surf School
All of our instructors hold current RLSS beach lifeguard certificates and are all qualified ISA surf coaches. Your safety is our priority.
Sam
Sam is the founder and director of Smart Surf School
He has spent the last 24 summers on Sennen’s water’s edge as a lifeguard and a surf coach. Sam is the most experienced surf coach in Sennen and has also worked in Australia with some of the World’s most renowned surf schools and instructors. He’s a passionate coach with bundles of enthusiasm who has a knack of motivating his students to success.
Sam, the oldest Smart brother competes on the UK pro surfing tour and has represented team England, twice finishing second in the Nationals.
Outside of surfing, Sam likes to keep fit and boasts an unbeaten record as an ex professional boxer!
Hollie
We are blessed to have a surf coach like Hollie in the house!
In the short time she’s been surfing, she’s already racked up her international beach life guard certification, her ISA surf coach ticket and a sponsorship with C-Skins wetsuits!
Hollie’s personable aura ensures friendship for life and she helps neutralise the sibling rivalry between the Smart brothers! She’ll be your first port of call upon booking your lessons and owns the biggest smile in the team. Hollie’s a natural teacher who can help motivate the nerves of any students who suffer with anxieties in relation to the ocean !
In her spare time, she is a truly inspirational surfing Mum of two studying health science and medicine !
Huck
Huck (twin brother of Woody) mixes up long boarding with short boarding and is also a national surf champion. This is Huck’s third year at Smart Surf and he will be lifeguarding on his days off. Huck’s style of coaching is methodical and professional and he can adapt to suit the needs of students from all different surfing abilities.
Huck has a fluent surfing style and has represented the English surf team. In his spare time he likes to read and go surfing.
Woody
Woody (twin brother of Huck) is one of the UK’s most talented young surfers and already holds an English surfing title. He has the patience of a saint and an easy going attitude to help students feel comfortable and relaxed.
Woody has worked at Smart Surf School for a few years now and started out here as one of our students during our ‘elite junior courses’. It’s been amazing to see him evolve as student, a coach and a person.
Woody is also a Sennen beach lifeguard during the weekends.
Eddy
This is Eddies second year of surf coaching and he’s only 17! We are all proud of Eddie and how he’s taken to our business ethos and the way we teach and treat our customers. Ed’s zest for surf coaching and being in the water makes him one of the most committed local surf purists I’ve ever met. His ambition to keep our students happy and safe is inspirational and his reviews speak for themselves.
Look out for Eddie on the water’s edge but also look out for him in the line-up because his surfing is beginning to go through the roof!
Sashka
Sashka was brought up in Sennen and basically never left Smart Surf School after his first lesson with us at the age of 8!
Sash is a very enthusiastic instructor and goes beyond the call of duty to ensure his groups are having the best experience, while succeeding on the water. Although Sashka had some surfing success as a junior (finishing 3 in the national finals) he doesn’t compete anymore and spends his days off from the surf school as a beach lifeguard on Sennen.
He has surf coached on the East coast of Australia where he picked up some great experience and has traveled around Central America in search of perfect waves and good times. He also enjoys skating and photography and looks forward to meeting you this summer.
